Bird Flu is one of the hot topic nowadays, everyone talks about it and a fear is spread among the non-vegetarians, due to which they stop eating their delicious meat and eggs. Well, jokes apart “BIRD FLU” is an infection caused by Avian Influenza viruses. These flu viruses occur naturally among birds. In India, bird flu is spread mainly by migratory birds coming into the country during winter months between September and March.
How it spreads?
Wild birds worldwide carry the viruses in their intestines, but usually do not get sick from them. However, bird flu is very contagious among birds and can make some domesticated birds, including chicken and ducks, very sick and kill them. Due, to this reason eating half cooked poultry meet and eggs is not safe for humans. The virus can transmitted from food to humans.
What are the symptoms?
Transmission of virus from birds to humans cause following symptoms in humans such as-
-Fever, cough, sore throat and Nausea
If virus reach to your respiratory system, so symptoms often progress to-
-Severe breathing problems, pneumonia, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
– Recently, The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has also urged public “not to panic” and ensure proper handling and cooking of poultry meat and eggs would be safe for eating.
– So, to avoid all such symptoms and to be prevented from Avian Influenza virus, you have to follow Do’s & Don’ts issued by the FSSAI to beat bird flu or avian flu in India-
1] Do not eat half-boiled eggs;
2] Do not eat undercooked chicken;
3] Avoid direct contact with birds in the infected areas;
4] Avoid touching dead birds with bare hands;
5] Do not keep raw meat in open;
6] No direct contact with raw meat;
7] Use a mask and gloves at the time of handling raw chicken;
8] Wash hands frequently;
9] Maintain the cleanliness of surroundings; and
10] Eat chicken, eggs and their products after cooking
And, at last I just want to conclude with that you need not to be worried if you are eating properly cooked meat and eggs because proper cooking inactivates the virus present inside the meat and eggs.
